Woodworking Fundamentals

There will be two topics for the June 6th meeting of the Woodworking Fundamentals group.

The first topic to be discussed will be shooting boards and how to tune miters and square cuts.  The talk will include how to build and use a shooting board and plane adjustment to get the preferred cut.

The second topic will be on wood and wood selection, for the beginner and intermediate woodworker.  The discussion will include the basic structure of wood and how different cuts are sawn and the dos and don’ts of wood selection and which species are more forgiving for the novice woodworker.  The morning will wrap up with a talk about grain direction and how to approach grain with edge tools.

As always, Bob will try to answer any questions, on topic or not.  If members have ideas for future meetings, please let John Dube or Bob LaCivita know and we will try to accommodate your suggestions in future meetings.

Also, John will not be able to make this meeting so if any of the attendees were willing to take notes and pictures and forward them to John, so he can write a follow-up for TouchUps, it would be greatly appreciated.

This will be the final meeting until we pick up again in October, so come, learn, have fun and enjoy some delicious edibles!
