Marquetry Workshop 3/8/2026

Marquetry Workshop
Sunday March 8 from 1 to 5 PM. Feel free to show up anytime after noon.
The workshop will focus on marquetry techniques using 1/16” veneers in natural wood. This will include:
- preparation of the veneers
- transferring and preserving the design while cutting and assembly the pieces
- cutting with a fret saw
- assembling the design
- preparation prior to glue up
- hand assembly of the 1\16” veneer designs
- mounting of finished piece to a backer board with a vacuum bag (if time permits)
There will be an opportunity for five individuals to cut and assemble a simple design using 1/16” veneers. A more complex design will be available for the more adventurous and/or more skilled. All tools and materials will be provided. You will be able to purchase the tools as a set to take home if you wish.
We anticipate this being the first in a series of marquetry subgroup meetings. Future meetings will be driven by the interests of the subgroup members.
The workshop will be held in George’s shop at 33 Cobbett Lane in Hollis, N.H. Cobbett Lane is off Rte. 122 (Silver Lake Road) about ten from the intersection of Rte. 101 and 122 in Milford.
There will be a GNHW sign at the intersection of Cobbett and Rte. 122 and another sign in front of George’s house. House numbers are on the garage.
There will be space for two cars in the driveway. Others may park on the same side of the road as George’s house.
George has been developing his woodworking skills since he retired about seven years ago. He builds boxes, cabinets and furniture. He started doing marquetry at the kitchen counter when his shop was in storage while building his current home. George uses marquetry to accent the furniture pieces he makes. George lives with his wife Maureen, his dog Rosie, and cat Tish.
