Jackson DuBois

“Structural Memory: Timber Framing and the Living Legacy of Historic Preservation”

Description:

Join Jackson DuBois, Executive Director of the Timber Framers Guild and one of the American

carpenters who helped reconstruct the spire of Notre-Dame de Paris, for a journey through the

enduring craft of timber framing. From high-profile international restoration to grassroots

community building, DuBois will explore the evolving role of timber framing and traditional

joinery in cultural heritage conservation. The talk will highlight how traditional timber

techniques meet modern preservation needs and how the Guild continues to train, educate, and

inspire the next generation of craft practitioners.

Jackson DuBois:

Jackson DuBois has worked as a timber framer for 20 years on a diverse variety of projects both

domestically and abroad for individuals, companies, institutions, museums, NGO’s and not for

profits. His experience ranges from historic reproductions, hand hewn and cut with hand tools, to

modern custom heavy timber construction. As a Journeyed Timber Framer with the Timber Framers

Guild, Jackson is well versed in all aspects of timber construction.

In 2014 he founded DuBois Timber Frames LLC, specializing in historic building restoration,

preservation, and adaptive reuse. The firm also designs, plans, and provides construction of quality

timber frame structures for diverse clientele in the United States and abroad.

Jackson has served in various capacities with the Timber Framers Guild of Alstead, New Hampshire,

including the Board of Directors, Clerk and President of the Guild, and currently as the Executive

Director of the Timber Framers Guild since 2023. Jackson recently spent time in France working with

the company Asselin in their Thouars, France workshop from May – July of 2023 taking part in the

reconstruction of the Spire (La Flèche) of Notre Dame de Paris.
