SUMMARY:GNHW General Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Agenda: \n\n9 am – meet and greet – -coffee and pastries\n9:15 – short business meeting\n10:00 Peter Follansbee will demonstrate and speak\n12:00 Brown Bag lunch.\n12:30 Auction\nAdjourn 3:00\n\n\nJane Butler from www.ToolsandTradesBooks.com will be setup and selling books for those that are interested\, Below is a bit of information about Jane: \nI have been surrounded by tools since I was small – my dad taught me to use an eggbeater drill and a soldering iron early on. I was a dealer in antique hand tools for 18 years but last year decided to focus on books about tools\, early trades and technology\, antique books about woodworking and other related subjects. Jennie Alexander was one of my customers for several years until she passed – we used to chat of the phone. \nI belong to several antique tool-focused organizations and am Secretary of the Early American Industries Assn. and a Director of Mid-West Tool Collectors. My husband and I have a remodeling business focusing on the unique issues of antique houses. One of my favorite things to do is explore the 17th century houses of New England and discuss the unique construction methods. I will be bringing a selection of books on fine woodworking techniques\, projects to make\, early hand tool history\, making tools\, special skills\, philosophy of woodworking\, and design. \nPeter’s Bio: \nI have been working with green wood and hand tools since 1978\, starting by making ladderback chairs based on Jennie Alexander’s book Make a Chair from a Tree. In 1980 I met Alexander and Drew Langsner and over time became lifelong friends with both of them. Over the next 15 years I took many workshops at Langsner’s Country Workshops – chairmaking\, both ladderbacks and Windsors\, timber framing\, coopering\, spoon & bowl carving\, and basketmaking. In 1989 I began studying 17th-century oak furniture with Alexander\, eventually leading to my work for 20 years in the living history museum now known as Plimoth Patuxet Museums in Plymouth\, Massachusetts. From 1994-2014 I worked there researching and making 17th-century style oak furniture. I’ve traveled extensively doing research and teaching workshops\, published many furniture history articles as well as woodworking books with Lost Art Press and done instructional videos with LIe Nielsen as well as on my own. Since 2008 I’ve been writing a blog chronicling my work\, totaling over 1\,600 posts. \nWebsite https://www.peterfollansbee-joiner.com/\nsubstack blog https://peterfollansbeejoinerswork.substack.com/\narchived blog https://pfollansbee.wordpress.com/ \n\nTHE GUILD AUCTION AT THE ANNUAL MEETING \nDONATING ITEMS TO THE AUCTION \nIf you are donating items to the auction\, please try to arrive around 8 a.m. so the crew will have time to sort things out. Here are some guidelines to consider when donating items for the auction: \n\nEverything sold at the auction is related to woodworking or metalworking\, e.g. tools\, wood or other materials\, abrasives\, jigs & fixtures\, books\, etc. (Sometimes we get too many magazines.)\nPower Tools must be in working order\, and cordless tools must have a charged battery and a charger.\nIf you have interesting information about the item\, please write it on a 3 x 5 index card and attach it to the item. (We will have cards available when you arrive.) Such information might include age\, history of previous ownership and use\, or any other functional or dysfunctional attributes. We don’t expect used items to be perfect\, but they should be restorable to good condition.\nIf you are bringing wood\, please tell us what you know about it – species\, origin\, condition\, etc.\nPlease do not bring chemicals\, liquids\, or anything toxic.\nIf an item you bring doesn’t sell\, we ask that you take it away when you leave\, but probably nothing will be left behind with all the fine quality\, bargain stuff that we will be selling.
