Each year, the Guild of NH Woodworkers mans a large booth at the League of NH Craftsmen’s Fair at Mount Sunapee Resort, Newbury, NH. The Annual Craftsmen’s Fair always begins the first Saturday in August and lasts nine days. It takes roughly 60 volunteers to setup, teardown and staff the booth. The Sunapee Fair coordinator normally starts looking for members who would like to volunteer in early March.
For anybody that has not volunteered or visited the fair, here is how the event works. The League provides us with the tent in a great location near the entrance to the fair. We set up tables at one end of the tent showcasing the prizes for the raffle that helps fund our Grant Program. These raffle items are made by Guild members and donated to the Guild. Reps from the Guild sell tickets for the donated items and answer questions from the public about the Guild, its programs and how to Join/Renew.
We have showcased woodcarving, furniture making, instrument making, and woodturning. We typically have two or more lathes with demonstrators working on projects, turning tops for the kids and also just having a good time making wood chips fly. The event is always held the first Saturday in August and is located at the Mt. Sunapee Resort in Newbury N.H.
