Wood for a Humid Environment

Question

What is the most stable species of wood to be used in a humid environment?—Mike DiMaggio

Answer

Joe Barry replies: A wood for humid environments would be white oak because it has tyloses which fill the open pores and limit the travel of water into the wood. Black locust is reputed to be so rot resistant that fence posts “last longer than the hole.”
