Finish on a Turned Bowl

Is it strictly a decorative piece or utilitarian one that might be used every day? Finishes can also alter the wood color effecting the look and feel of a piece. It is best to experiment with the type wood being used to get the desired effect. Yes sanding sealer can be used but should be followed by a suitable top coat be it clear or otherwise.
